25 Albums Turning 25 That Don’t Suck (1992)

25 Albums Turning 25 That Don't Suck (1992)1992. What comes mind for you when you think of that year? Nirvana‘s Nevermind reached number 1 on the Billboard charts. Vince Neil quit Motley Crue… right after being fired. Mariah Carey sang at her live performances. Whitney Houston married Bobby Brown and started doing crack.  Metallica and G N’ R went on a co-headlining tour that included a riot in Canada after James Hetfield burned his hand on some pyro while Axl Rose refused to go onstage until he finished his wine and cigarette. Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love have a baby which should eliminate any doubt one would have over Kurt‘s drug addiction. You gotta be wasted to have sex with Courtney Love ahmahrite?

Sinead O’Connor ripped up a picture of the Pope. Madonna sold naked pictures of herself for $50. Bill Wyman quit the StonesHalford quit Priest. Frusciante quit the PeppersAxl sang with Elton. The Atari 2600 was officially discontinued. Mike Tyson went to prison. Bill Clinton became president. And if all of that wasn’t bad enough, you couldn’t much go anywhere without the sound of Whitney Houston belting out that fucking Dolly Parton song she recorded for that dreadful Bodyguard movie. Plus there’s my repressed memory. Something about an “Achy, Breaky Heart.” I shiver at the thought.

But 1992 had a lot of awesome. Black Sabbath made nice with Dio and made another record. Things seemed to be going well until Tony and Geezer agreed to open for Ozzy without checking with Dio. Oops. We got debut releases from Tool, Stone Temple Pilots and Rage Against the Machine while long toiling bands like White Zombie and Ministry got their first taste of the big time. It was the first BIG Lollapalooza tour. And quite possibly the last great one. A bunch of good memories of 1992.

So from that year I offer for your review.  In no particular order.  25 albums turning 25… that don’t suck!

“Cuatro” is one of my favorite Flotsam and Jetsam albums. Very underrated band that never gets played…and only gets mentioned if someone talks about Jason Newsted on their debut. Wish Chris/Aaron would have thrown them some praise during their thrash episode way back when. But love the Decibel Geek hosts/show, and love your list here…always knew ’92 was killer!
