Bloodstock Metal Festival continue to announce bands from all over the world to the festival to be held at Catton Hall Derbyshire on the weekend of August 9 – 12. The 2 main stages are filling up nicely with 3 more for the main Dio stage and 4 for the second stage in the Sophie Tent.

First up come Nailed To Obscurity from Esens in Germany who are according to the press details “doomy melodeath”. If like me you are wondering what that means or sounds like, I can happily inform readers that they have a large amount of elements about them that are similar to Opeth, Katatonia and Paradise Lost. Their latest album is called “King Delusion” and it sounds very good indeed! Catch them early Saturday on the main stage.

Early Sunday on the Dio are Swedish outfit Evergrey. It seems like a long-awaited return as they haven’t played the festival since around 2005 and are one of the few groups who are playing this year that actually played the indoor festivals away back in the early 2000s. They are now 10 albums into their career and their newest “The Storm Within” features a song where singer Tom S Englund duets with Floor Jansen of Nightwish who rather handily are also playing on the Sunday! Fingers crossed we might get to see them live onstage together.

Opening the day on the main stage on the Sunday are British heavy metal band Monument who are trying to bring back the sound and energy of the NWOBHM. One for lovers of old school Maiden and Saxon with duel guitars and screaming vocals. Certainly should wake everyone up on the last day.

Evergrey From Sweden

Heading on to the Sophie announcements, first up come Welsh death metal band outfit Sodomized Cadaver. Last year they impressed at festivals including Hammerfest and Heavy Scotland and the last time they played Bloodstock they filled the Jagermeister tent to over flowing. Catch them on Friday.

Also on the Friday come Deity’s Muse. This 4 piece from South Africa are more alt rock with metal and hints of progressive. They sound excited as Wayne the vocalist was quoted as saying “this is a dream come true for us 4 weirdo South Africans. We are salivating at the prospect”. Maybe not a good idea to stand to close to them with your pint until after they have performed!

Switching to Saturday we have 2 more bands Limb and With The Dead. The former (Limb) are very classic sounding but with a side of doom and stoner. Hailing from London this piece have a touch of Clutch about them in places. They can certainly groove.

With The Dead are comprised of ex members of Napalm Death, Cathedral and Electric Wizard. Yes they are doomy, heavy, groovy and psychedelic with the added bonus of having the wonderful Lee Dorrian up front. This should be a belter of a gig.

All these added to a bill headlined by Judas Priest, Gojira and Nightwish along with other names such as Orphaned Land, Doro, Watain, Alestorm, Mr Big, Venom Inc and Suicidal Tendencies making this one of the best years in history of the festival.
