With less than 21 wBloodstock Metal Festeeks to go, Bloodstock Metal Fest (being held at Catton Hall Derbyshire August 9 to 12) are still announcing bands for the two main stages better known as the Ronnie James Dio and Sophie Lancaster stages (Dio and Sophie for short).

In this series of four bands we have two from the UK, one from Scotland and another from England, as well as the US and for the very first time Nepal in the Himalayas! Metal is truly international.

There is a bit of variety in styles with a couple being more influenced by bands like Lamb Of God and Pantera and going through to doom and death metal.

First up from the United States of America is the welcome return of the “controversial” death metal outfit Cannibal Corpse who have had the dubious distinction of either being banned or having their records banned in places like Australia, Germany, and Russia. No problems when it comes to Bloodstock having played at least a couple of times before (2010 and 2015). With a constant rhythm section in Alex Webster (bass) and Paul Mazurkiewicz (drums) and a singer who has been with the band since 1998 in GeorgeCorpsegrinderFisher, they have a steady line up that knows how to rip a place apart. Expect a “Hammer Smashed Face” on the Saturday as they are special guests on the Dio stage.

Hailing from the west of Scotland Bleed From Within are making their first (as far as I know) appearance as special guests to Doro in the Sophie tent stage on the Friday night. This five-piece started off playing covers in a youth club where they met, specializing in material by Lamb Of God. It didn’t take too long before they started writing their own material. This year in April they release their fourth album called Era from which the new single “Alive” comes from.

Also playing on the Friday on the Sophie stage are Godthrymm who comprise four guys from Halifax in England. Between them, they have played in bands such as My Dying Bride, Anathema, and Solstice amongst others. This doom outfit is releasing their first album Sacred Soil in April.

Finally hailing from Nepal comes Underside who are the first band to play Bloodstock from there. They have a Lamb Of God and Pantera thing going on and vocalist Avishe K.C has a voice that is a little bit like Corey Taylor (Slipknot, Stone Sour) at times. Impressively they have done much fundraising after the horrendous earthquake there in 2015, firstly raising £12.000 for the emergency aid relief then doing a special show which helped rebuild a school in one of the worst-hit areas. They also run or are behind the biggest metal festival in India. I am sure they will get a suitable welcome at Bloodstock.

You can still buy tickets for the event featuring these four bands along with Judas Priest, Gojira, Nightwish, Doro, Watain, Orphaned Land, Suicidal Tendencies, Mr. Big, Emperor and Devildriver amongst many others.  Buy on this link…
