Bloodstock MeBloodstocktal Festival continue to announce bands for the two main stages for the weekend in August (9th to 12th) including the headliner for the Saturday night on the second stage (The Sophie Lancaster Stage).

Israeli progressive metal (and symphonic) outfit Orphaned Land will close the Saturday night in the tent. With an excellent new album out this month in “Unsung Prophets And Dead Messiahs” which is a concept piece taking the “allegory of the cave” by Plato as it’s basis, it is an album of Eastern delight, with those identifiable sounds associated with the band and on this occasion bringing back some of the death style growls of the past amongst wonderful melodies, and intelligent songs. What a fabulous announcement and a fine close to the live music for the Saturday in the tent. Also what a choice for the audience with Gojira headlining the main stage as well. Now how can I be in two places at once?

Sunday on the main stage (Ronnie James Dio Stage) welcomes Jasta And Friends. Jamie Jasta who is the singer in Hatebreed is almost a regular at the event having played certainly three times previously from 2012. He has promised a few surprise guests joining him on the day apart from Kirk Windstein (Kingdom of Sorrow, Down and Crowbar) who has already been confirmed as they both are in Kingdom Of Sorrow. This could be something quite special and already there is the excitement of looking at who else is playing that day that might just join in as well!

Two other bands are also added to Saturday between the two stages, firstly on the main stage are Venom Inc who feature of course two of the classic line up of Venom in guitarist Mantas and drummer Abaddon along with another previous member on bass in Demolition Man. With a new album in Ave and the back catalog to choose from this should be a very tasty set. The newer album is certainly more accessible with some groove and melody in it but it still retains much of the dark evil (or depending on your view downright silly) lyrics and moods. Owing more toward Priest and Motorhead at times but with more evil intent. The band is well named as they will be incorporating both old and new sounds in what should be a vicious and Satanic set.

Finally again for the Saturday are Danish prog outfit Vola, who mention artists such as Opeth, Porcupine Tree, Devin Townsend, along with the very underrated Swedish outfit Freak Kitchen (any chance of that at all Bloodstock?) along with the moods of Massive Attack, they sound like one to check out if willing to try something a little different.

2018 is looking a very strong year for Bloodstock with these and previous announcements such as headliners Judas Priest, Doro, Gojira, Nightwish and Watain and still more to come.
