inglorious_bandFormed in February 2014, Inglorious are a UK band fronted by Nathan James, who made a name for himself having sung for the multi-platinum selling Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and for Scorpions guitar legend Uli Jon Roth.  The band is rounded out by rhythm guitarist Wil Taylor, lead guitarist Andreas Eriksson, bassist Colin Parkinson, and drummer Phil Beaver.

Their debut album is a classic rock cocktail of Led Zeppelin, Bad Company and a dash of Whitesnake.  This is a drink that has been drunk a thousand times, but still has a refreshing kick that gets you happy and makes you feel good.

It is interesting that I have been thinking about Jake E Lee‘s Badlands group, as this album really echoes what he was trying to do on their debut album.  There is blues, there is rock and there is a good measure of soul on Inglorious.  It is a mixture that has been served so well with bands like Radio Exile and Voodoo Circle, to name but two, but this is a great sounding record and the songs are expertly crafted.

Inglorious_FrontThe record opens with the blaster “Until I Die“.  A classic Hammond organ workout heralds the Zep-like riffing with Nathan James belting out the lyrics like King Kong taking out airplanes.  From there on in, the record develops like an ancient Polaroid picture, getting stronger by the second until fully done.

All the main influences run through Blues Rock blasters such as “Breakaway” with its Whitesnake vibe and guitar hero soloing.  “High Flying Gypsy” taunts us with its “Kashmir” musing and “Girl Got A Gun” gets all moody and tight, with a fantastic chorus to latch onto.

Other strong songs include “Bleed For You” and the title track.  However, my chosen rock winner is “Holy Water“.  James absolutely nails this with tail gunner accuracy.  Bang!  The track kills at a hundred paces, slashing you down with its sublime chorus following a brooding entrance.

This is Whitesnake for the 21st Century…This is real rock at its most exciting.  Put this into your car and see if you don’t get a speed ticket!
