If you wanted to catch the Hey! Ho! Let’s Go: Ramones and the Birth of Punk exhibit in New York City, you’re, unfortunately, too late. The exhibit hosted by the Queens Museum officially closed out its sixteen-week stint this past weekend.in New York City. Fortunately, there will be another opportunity to catch part 2 of the exhibit when it opens at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles on September 16, 2016. Although the two parts share many of the same artifacts gleaned from over 50 public and private collections, the Grammy Museum‘s part will look at the influence of the Ramones and their place within the larger music scene. The exhibit is organized under several themes such as artists, songs, places and events and includes insights and materials from individuals including “the fifth Ramone” Arturo Vega who, along with members of the band, designed the Ramones logo. Many rare artifacts such as early press kits, flyers, clothing, posters and photographs are part of the display. A highlight is the 60-minute concert video from the band’s 1977 London show. Hey! Ho! Let’s Go: Ramones and the Birth of Punk exhibit commemorates the 40th anniversary of the self-titled debut Ramones album released in April 1976. The exhibit was years in the making and is a joint endeavor between the Queens Museum and the Grammy Museum in collaboration with Ramones Productions Inc. Although final attendance figures for the New York run are not yet available, the website obeygiant.com reports the exhibit is certain to break Queens Museum attendance records. The opening day crowd in April was in excess of 3000 visitors resulting in 90-minute wait times. The Grammy Museum is located in the L.A. Live District in downtown L.A. Hey! Ho! Let’s Go: Ramones and the Birth of Punk opens September 16 and runs until March 2017.
