Decibel Geek‘s ace photographer Brian Ronald spent his time aboard the Monsters of Rock Cruise 2018 capturing as many fantastic performers in action as he could. In this gallery of shots, he showcases RAVEN as they rocked the Royal Caribbean Navigator of the Seas! The seminal British band literally blew audiences away aboard the ship with two stellar face-melting performances.
RAVEN formed in 1974 with the Gallaghers, John and Mark and drummer Paul Bowden. By 1987 Joe Hasselvander was behind the kit and the trio continues as such today. The band recorded and toured until 2001, when a wall collapsed on guitarist Mark Gallagher, crushing his legs. Raven went on hiatus for nearly 5 years, from 2001–2006, while the guitarist rehabilitated.
Calling themselves the NWOBHM Godfathers of Thrash, Raven enjoyed some commercial success in the mid 80’s and a worldwide contract with Atlantic Records.
The band’s latest album, Extermination, appeared on several best of the year lists. Reportedly they are working on a new album.
