Rocklahoma (4)The summer music festivals are about to start up and for many, the premier Hard Rock Festival happens on Memorial Day Weekend in a small town about 45 miles outside of Tulsa, Oklahoma. The town of Pryor has been the site of the Rocklahoma Music Festival since 2007 and this year marks their 10th anniversary. What started out as a Classic Rock festival with such acts as Ratt, Twisted Sister, and Warrant kept growing bigger every year. When AEGLive took over in 2010 was when it really took off. Bringing in a mixture of the classic 80’s metal bands with such modern rock acts as Godsmack, Staind, and Sevendust, Rocklahoma has built itself as one of the most popular festivals in the U.S. Decibel Geek‘s Rich “The Meister” Dillon is readying for the journey from Toronto Canada to Oklahoma for his inaugural, but probably not final, attendance at the Rocklahoma Festival where he will be joining Decibel Geek‘s YouTube video creator “Rockin” Ron Runyon, a Rocklahoma veteran, for their first in-person meeting. Both rock and metal lovers, the two Decibel Geek staffers shared quick comments on the event.

Rocklahoma (1)“Rockin” Ron Runyon says: “I have been going to Rocklahoma since 2011 and this year is the biggest yet. Over 90 bands and artists playing on 3 stages for 3 days make this the Rock N’ Roll Party of the year. Headliners for this 10th-anniversary celebration include The Scorpions, Disturbed, Rob Zombie, and Five Finger Death Punch and Decibel Geek is going to be there covering all the action. We’ll do our best but, the Rocklahoma experience really can’t be done justice in words, you have to be there! Along with a solid lineup of great Rock acts, Rocklahoma has much more to offer. Non-stop campground parties, a variety of vendors throughout the grounds offering everything from great food and beverages including ice cold beer to merchandise and even helicopter rides. The setup itself is unique to any other festival with the famous “picture alley”, a walkway that allows every ticket holder to be able to take pictures of their favourite main stage act from the very front center of the stage.”
.
Rich “The Meister” Dillon comments: “Being the world festival traveller that I am, having attended such events as Sweden Rock Festival, Firefest Festival, Hellfest, Monsters of Rock Cruises, Rock n’ Skull, M3 Festival and more, I’m pumped to meet friends new and old at my first Rocklahoma. Music wise for me, it’s some of the smaller name bands (as although awesome rock acts, I’ve seen many of the headliners and well-known names before) that offer the biggest draw. If you’re not familiar already, check out some music from these five “Meister Attractions”: Niterain from Oslo, Norway, Diamond Lane who have been played previously on the Decibel Geek Podcast, Grind from Tulsa OK, Florida’s Five Star Hooker, and the NWOBHM stylings of Tulsa’s Chainmail. At about 90 bands, these few are only the tip of the iceberg to be discovered.”
.
One highlight for both our “heroes” will be Detroit’s own Wilson who are well known to Decibel Geek. Their awesome Right to Rise album was a feature during the Best of 2015 Podcast Episode as well as appearing in concert/album reviews and interviews by other Decibel Geek staffers on our website.
.
Tickets are still available with GA tickets starting around $100 but are selling out quickly.  Rocklahoma 2016 is May 27, 28 & 29 in Pryor, Oklahoma.  Don’t miss out on the Rock N’ Roll Party of the Year, for more information and available tickets use the links below…..and if you spot the Decibel Geek team at the event come up and say “hi”, we might just have some Decibel Geek swag for ya!
