Andrew Jacobs here,

Okay okay, technically speaking, it’s NOT an unbelievably bad album cover (hell, it’s not really even a bad album cover).  And yes, there are certainly far worse album covers with unbelievably good albums housed inside them.

Having said that though, my biggest complaint with this album cover is with the inside packaging and mostly because there is not one single photo of the band or any of it’s members.  That is a HUGE no no with me for any album.  However, for a rock band as legendary and iconic as the David Lee Roth fronted Van Halen (and even though it’s minus the great Michael Anthony), that is borderline criminal.

Now for the positives – as I’ve already mentioned in a previous post or 3, this is absolutely my favorite album of 2012 and will most likely wind up being my favorite album of not only the entire decade of the 2010s but depending on how much longer I live, it could very well become my favorite album of the entire 21st century as well.  Yes folks, it’s seriously that good.  The vocals, musicianship and songwriting are all top notch.  And, of course, to say that at 57 years old, Roth’s still got it would be the understatement of, well, the century.

Roth era VH and KISS are both tied for first place as my favorite rock band of all time.  However, and in my not so humble opinion of course, A Different Kind Of Truth is leaps and bounds better than Monster in every way.  Except, of course, packaging.
