UNDERTOW, a name that stands and guarantees intense, timeless and high-grade metal, since their foundation in 1993. Pure energy, a decent aggression and catchy melodies are the main trademarks of their highly emotional sound. On their upcoming new studio album Reap The Storm, all those elements are even more foregrounded and accomplish a heavy monster, that will be unleashed on September 21, both on CD and vinyl, by their new label El Puerto Records/Soulfood.

Today, UNDERTOW release their first single, including a clip for the track “Trails For The Blind”. Frontman Joachim Baschin comments: “Trails For The Blind” was the first song we have written for the new record and it became a cornerstone for the creative process of the new album. The sophisticated guitar melodies developed an earworm character and the whole band whistled constantly parts of it. The lyrics are written by our former bassist Tom, while I had the basic idea. It’s about how mobile phones or game consoles affect our lives and take our freedom to realize the real important things in life. It puts us in chains…  if you get influenced by it too much, what is obviously the case for many of us today.”

The eleven tracks on Reap The Storm were mixed and produced by Roger Grüninger (HACKNEYED, END OF GREEN a.o) at the Studio 141 in Schwäbisch Hall (South Germany), who already worked with the band on their previous albums Don’t Pray To The Ashes and In Deepest Silence. Mastering was done by Achim Köhler (AMON AMARTH, PRIMAL FEAR a.o.), while the artwork and booklet was created by Björn Gooßes of Killustrations (KVELERTAK, SODOM a.o.).

“It’s a storm of emotions, a pure and flawless metal album, led by the different moods of the songs”, says vocalist, guitarist and band founder Joachim Baschin, describing the multi-layered new epic, with which Undertow redefines themselves, processes many new influences and expand their very own niche.

“The title Reap The Storm goes well with the creation process of the album, which was also swayed by setbacks and we had to overcome a number of challenges until it was completed. Last but not least, the title was created by the lyrics written by our former bass player Tom, based on the history of the criminal case Dudley and Stephens of 1884, which was about cannibalism after a shipwreck and how this was justified. The case had triggered a veritable storm between judicial decision and public opinion. The artwork of the front cover is supposed to symbolize the calm before the storm, the spine as a resistant, unshakable part, while the dandelion spreads even in light winds in all directions.
