BLOODSTOCK NEWS

Bloodstock Metal Festival is less than a month away. The good news is that Decibel Geek will be there reporting and reviewing the festival for readers online. However, you can still be there as a few tickets remain for this four day extravaganza (see link).

Meanwhile, Bloodstock have announced another batch of new bands for those interested in checking out new talent or unknown outfits.

New Blood Stage

For Friday, the additions are:

Garshkott, winners of the Northants heat of Metal 2 The Masses.  These a five piece groove metal outfit from Milton Keynes, who love bands such as Pantera and Lamb Of God.

From the Leeds and Manchester area come female fronted outfit Sertraline, who have crunchy riffs along with lots of melodies and won through via Lincolnshire heats.

If hard hitting death metal is your thing then Bristol winners Body Harvest seem like a good shout to check out. They say they are “fast, intense with no core, just death”.

Finally, Birmingham winners Trivax are hitting the stage on the Friday. A Black Metal band, their main man Shayan hails from Iran. He moved away, due to restrictions placed upon bands playing music such as we can all sometimes take for granted. Musicians have been arrested for playing metal there and he himself has had to fight authorities to do what he believes in.

Saturday has three additions to the New Blood stage.

The Bloodstock Site From Above

The Brood are “grinding hardcore” from London. They feature members from England, Spain and France.  They cite Napalm Death as an influence.

Bringing some progressive death metal are Luna’s Call. Namechecking Opeth, Steven Wilson, Decapitated and Devin Townsend gives you an idea as to what to expect!

Last for Saturday are Earthbound, who describe themselves as “melodeth” and cite influences such as Iron Maiden, Arch Enemy and Trivium.

Two more outfits have been announced for Sunday.

Imminent Annihilation are Oxford winners who play “face melting riffs of the heavy metal kind”.

Finally, London winners Dead Before Mourning are appearing, who are going to please anyone into Megadeth and Suicidal Tendencies, which is quite a lot of us!

Jägermeister Stage

Bloodstock Map 2018

The Jagermeister stage for Friday has Oxford thrashers Damaged Reich as well as sludge and stoners Callus and metal loving headbangers Untamed. Callus claim to make “a truly obnoxious, quite furious and outright terrifying sound”. So something for them to prove to everyone on the day!

Saturday brings the appearance of death metallers Cranial Separation, who, according to at least one reviewer, are “fucking brutal with some expert face pulling”. Sounds fun.

Sunday features Def Goldblum, who are described as “3 skinheads and 1 mc out to save the soul of rap metal”.  The band claim their main interests are “unprintably bad humour and intoxication”. Possibly even together.

In Conclusion

These all add to the bands already announced, meaning four stages of all sorts of metal from morning till late night, with famous names to enjoy again and brand new acts to check out for the first time. Add to that the strongman (or person) competition, the art display, the late night cinema, rock club nights with legends such as Krusher and a mass dance off during Cannibal Corpse’s set based on Ace Ventura among other daftness, this should be as always an absolute hoot!

To enjoy Judas Priest, Gojira, Nightwish, Doro, Orphaned Land, Watain, Devildriver, Suicidal Tendencies, Kamelot, Alestorm, Fozzy, Jasta And Friends and yes Mr Big then get along to Catton Hall in Derbyshire August 9 to 12. Decibel Geek will be there reviewing and partaking of light refreshments at appropriate times! Feel free to come and join us!
