Demon - Sweden Rock 2019Demon are a British band formed in the late ’70s. They are considered an integral part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement. Splitting up in the ’90s, vocalist and sole remaining founding member Dave Hill reformed Demon in 2001. Throughout the years, Demon have amassed a thirteen album collection. I, Rich “The Meister” Dillon have seen Demon on a number of occasions, including during my first foray to Sweden Rock in 2013. It was, in fact, that first time to Sweden Rock Festival that led to my discovery of Demon, who until then had flown beneath my radar. Demon – Sweden Rock 2019

DEMON – Sweden Rock 2019

For their set here at Sweden Rock 2019 on Wednesday, June 5, they focussed mainly on 1982’s The Unexpected Guest album. In fact, of the eleven songs in the set eight were derived from this release. Two off of the 1981 debut, Night of the Demon and one from 1991’s Hold on to the Dream rounded out the show. Vocalist and founder Dave Hill fronted the band adorned with white face paint and a horned mask. In the several times I’ve witnessed Demon, this is a first seeing this stage costume. It really added a different element to the gig.

The band played well and the crowd, me included, happily sang along. The only knock, if you ask me, is that the 2012 Unbroken album went completely ignored. Being a latecomer to Demon, it’s here that I started as I prepped for my first Sweden Rock! If you are not versed in the Demon catalogue, I suggest you rectify that asap!
