Sweden Rock BannerSince attending his first Sweden Rock Festival in 2013, our editor Rich “The Meister” Dillon has made a yearly trek from Toronto, Canada to Solvesborg, Sweden. In his extensive coverage of the event through the years, he has often proclaimed it “the greatest festival on land”. This morning, Sweden Rock announced that it has secured Iron Maiden for the 2018 event, adding to the already announced Ozzy Osbourne and Heavy Load. Who’s joining the Decibel Geek team this year?

The Press Release Translated from Swedish:

On June 7, 2018, Iron Maiden ends the stage at the Sweden Rock Festival in Sölvesborg.

“They are too big and expensive to play at the Sweden Rock Festival.” So we have often described Iron Maiden when our guests have asked them. And that’s true, but with our colleagues in Live Nation, we’ve now found a setup that has made it impossible. We are extremely proud and happy to present today the biggest booking in the festival’s history: Iron Maiden is playing Sweden Rock this summer!

Iron Maiden, one of the world’s biggest hardcore bands and one of its best markets in Sweden, is launching this summer on a new world tour called Legacy of the Beast. The European party of the tour will start in late May and will reach the Sweden Rock Festival on Thursday, June 7th (the band will also play at Tele2 Arena in Stockholm on June 1).

Iron Maiden Sweden RockThe Legacy of the Beast tour’s concept is inspired by Iron Maiden‘s mobile games and comic book with the same name. The tour plans include scandals that will build up a number of different “worlds” designed for the band’s record cover and a set list with the emphasis on the band’s classic 80’s, but with a handful of surprises from more recent albums as an additional spice.

Band Manager Rod Smallwood develops all this:

“As our fans know, our tours have followed a certain pattern since Bruce Dickinson (song) and Adrian Smith (guitar) came back to the band around the millennium. Everyone’s tour has focused on a new album release and every other tour has focused on the band’s classic. We like to work so that we then have the opportunity to introduce both newer materials and the older favorites that we know the fans want to hear. The change is interesting, not just for the fans but also for the band.”

“Next year’s tour will focus on the older material and we decided to base the tour on the name Legacy of the Beast. It fits the purpose of the tour perfectly and gives us many creative possibilities, especially with our mascot Eddie! I do not want to reveal too much already now, but we work on a variety of stage building genres in classic Maiden tradition and we hope to give our fans a great experience when they see this very special show.”

The Sweden Rock Festival is held in Solvesborg on 6-9 June 2018. Previously, Ozzy Osbourne and Heavy Load are ready for the festival. The tickets will be released on November 24th at 09.00. More artists will be presented before that.

Sweden Rock is Scandinavia’s biggest hard rock festival. Every year, visitors from around 50 countries are attracted to Sölvesborg, where they are invited to over 80 concerts in a mix of classic rock, hard rock, southern rock, and metal. Sweden Rock is renowned for keeping a high level of service, and the friendly atmosphere has become one of the festival’s main signatures. In addition to the annual festival, Sweden Rock now has a magazine, beverages and lifestyle products gathered under its brand.
