Kentucky’s own Black Stone Cherry kicked off the Memorial Day weekend with a killer show at the Mercury Ballroom.
Following an abbreviated set at the 2015 Louder Than Life festival, this weekend’s show marks the first time the band has returned to Louisville on a headline run in about 9 years.
Keeping the sort of “Home State” vibe, the band brought along fellow Kentucky bred bands, Sixth Floor and Luther. Sixth Floor, a band from Mogantown, Kentucky, opened the show and set the tone for the night with their modern day take on the southern rock sound. They were followed by Glasgow, Kentucky’s own, Luther, who are a self described Heavy Metal/Hoodlum Rock band. I couldn’t describe their sound any better than that if I tried. Total ass kickers.
Black Stone Cherry ended the evening with what was about a 2 hour set of ass kicking rock n’ roll to a packed house with a crowd that was so Kentucky, I wouldn’t have been surprised if the ghost of Colonel Sanders would have shown up, drunk on bourbon, wearing a derby hat and started crowd surfing. Point being, if you are a fan of southern-ish rock and want to experience what it’s partying in the south, catch these guys on tour, they’ll bring that experience to you. Readers in Europe, these guys are headed your way.
Check out the included photo gallery from the show then be sure to click the Tour Links tab to see when the guys will be hitting your area.
