Scorpions to headline Sunday at Bloodstock

Whilst this reviewer has been running around, Bloodstock Metal Festival has been announcing more bands for its 2019 celebration.

The biggest announcement, met with almost universal approval on the forums for the festival, was the Sunday headliners, German metal legends Scorpions!  This should mean a real partying end to the weekend. Plenty of singalongs as well as headbanging and fist throwing. With songs like “Blackout”, “Rock You Like A Hurricane”, “The Zoo” and “Big City Nights”, this should be a fabulous end to the main stage entertainment at Bloodstock. This will be the first time the band have played at Catton Hall, so making it an even more special announcement.

Four other bands have also been announced in the last week or so with a wide range of styles including hardcore punk in the shape of Code Orange. Again, this is a band making their first appearance at the festival playing the main stage (Dio Stage) on the Saturday. They have a new EP out called “The Hurt Will Go On” which has a track which has Corey from Slipknot/Stone Sour also on vocals! They are not scared to try things, including keyboards and programming in some of the songs.

Returning to Bloodstock for the first time since 2011 are American metal outfit Skeletonwitch. Their newest album called “Devouring Radiant Light” is closer to full on Black Metal. This time around, they will have up front new singer Adam Clemans from Wolvhammer.  Proudly, these guys were stopped from playing the House Of Blues, as Disney said they were “unfit to be associated to them.”  No idea if that still stands, but still cool in my book.

Headlining the Sophie Lancaster Stage on the Thursday night (which is a half day event) are Rotting Christ. The Greeks are looking forward to it saying, “we are returning to one of the most dedicated festivals around for our scene”.  They  added that they will “bring a brand new setlist to headline Thursday night”. They last graced the festival back in 2014.

Finally rounding up the new announcements, come Swiss folk metallers Eluveitie who are making a welcome return to Bloodstock after 11 years. They are also rounding up the festival by headlining the Sophie Stage on the Sunday night after The Scorpions have brought the main stage to a close! The band is an almost revolving door around founder member Chrigol Glanzmann, with musicians playing all sorts of instruments including bagpipes and the hurdy-gurdy to make quite a joyous sound at times and brutal metal at others! Always a lively band to watch so they should end the weekend nicely.

These bands join the aforementioned Scorpions, along with Sabaton, Cradle Of Filth, Dee Snider and others at Catton Hall in Derbyshire on the weekend of August 8 to 11.
