Whilst your intrepid news reporter was stuck in hospital (no need for an “aaahhhh”), Bloodstock Metal Festival has continued to announce bands. The festival to be held at Catton Hall Derbyshire in August has added the original “metal queenDoro Pesch as headliner for the Sophie Lancaster tent on the Friday night. Having been blasting out metal anthems as well as powerful ballads for over 30 years, Doro continues to impress live. One of the most engaging and delightful people in rock and metal, who has worked with the best of them (including Dio, Judas Priest amongst others) and speaks with such good grace and love of those we share our passions with whilst onstage. Be prepared for fist punching, “oi” shouting and a large singalong (or 2) of “Burning The Witches”.

Also on Friday is the return of Swedish death metal outfit (with a bit of British in there) Bloodbath featuring members of Paradise Lost, Katatonia and Opeth. Last appearing away back on 2010 but with Mikael on vocals, this is the first chance to see them with Nick from Paradise Lost up front.

Sunday brings the band Fozzy with singer and wrestler Chris Jericho up front.  This is a more melodic addition to the bill adding to the variety of the weekend with some tight grooves and riffs. but with clean vocals and even a touch of southern rock in places.

Finally Septicflesh are added to the Saturday line up. With a powerful doom ladened sound, orchestral and incredibly atmospheric they should be an excellent addition having never (to my knowledge) played Bloodstock before.

All these, along with previously announced headliners in Gojira, Judas Priest and Nightwish along with fellow support Emperor, Devildriver, Watain, Combichrist, Nails. Orden Ogan and Memoriam are making this a very good line up indeed.

There are still a few “early price” tickets available for the cheeky sum of £125 (£139 with camping) for the weekend (when gone, it will be £145 for the weekend).

Between the 9th and 16th of December there will be a chance to upgrade to VIP for only £145 for the weekend as well.
