Bloodstock Metal Festival have announced another five bands for the metal shindig at Catton Hall Derbyshire August 8 to 11. Plenty of metal to go around for all.
FRIDAY NIGHT
Firstly, the Friday night headliner in the Sophie tent will be Swedish trio Grand Magus. At the moment, Grand Magus are busy at work recording their follow up to 2016’s Sword Songs. Therefore, some new stuff to enjoy when they play that Friday night. It has been a while since they graced the stage at Bloodstock. They have been absent since 2012, so this is good news for fans of the band. JB (singer/guitarist) has promised to “lay waste to your eardrums with metal.” Sounds good to me!
Returning for the first time in a few years (2013 was last visit) are American thrash outfit from the Bay Area, Death Angel. They are also working on new music, which should be out early next year. The last time they played, they apparently had to do their slot and run as they had to get to another show. However, according to frontman Mark Osegueda, they plan to stick around and “experience this incredible festival properly in all its glory.” He added that the show will be “a pure Thrash set, fuelled by raw human aggression and passion.” They will play the main stage (the Dio) on the Friday.
Joining them that day on the same stage are Metal Church. The band have a new album out in December called Damned If You Do, the twelfth of their career. They have been around since the start of the Thrash era, but always had a foot or two in straight hard rock/metal. They last played on the second outdoor Bloodstock in 2006, making this one of the longest spells between performances at the festival.
SATURDAY
In addition, Evil Scarecrow have been added. They are a madcap bunch of loons, who have worked their way through the stages and the years, causing laughter and mayhem. An absolute favourite at Bloodstock for very good reason. Be prepared to dance, whether as a robot or a crab (check out previous footage on You Tube for this below) and have a shitload of fun. They will be hitting the stage on the Saturday (Dio).
SUNDAY
For those who love all out Heavy Metal, the appearance Sunday of ex-Manowar man Ross The Boss on the Dio Stage should make them happy. A chance to belt out those classic metal anthems in a field with beer in hand amongst other like minded old school metal fans should be fun as always.
These acts are all added to previous announced headliners Sabaton, Scorpions, Eluveite, along with Queensryche, Dee Snider, Children Of Bodom and Soilwork.
