More Bands!
Bloodstock Metal Festival continues to announce new bands, as well as other news regarding things to enjoy and explore at this years event to be held at Catton Hall in Derbyshire England.
There are a list of winners from the heats of the Metal 2 The Masses competitions held all over the UK, most of whom are new on me as well. The ones revealed this time include….
Friday bands include two competition winners. Firstly, from Stoke, are “groove-laden melodic death metal” outfit Vulgore. In addition, from Leicester, are Seven Hells, a hardcore band “with a hardcore attitude”. Finishing the trio of bands for Friday are Scottish prog metallers Turbyne. They were actually picked to play due to the quality of their CD which they sent to the promoters!
Saturday brings Polish band (from Northampton) Ashborn. Hitchin winners 13 also are on the bill. For those who love the heavier end of metal, then West Yorkshire outfit Valafar might be a good choice to check out.
Sunday has another three bands for the New Blood Stage. They include Crawlblind,who have recently reformed after a good few years absence from the scene. They blend stuff like Pantera with Korn,so could be an interesting watch. Winning through from Burnley are Autocracy, a melodic metal band who name At The Gates and Parkway Drive as influences. If sludge is your thing, then Drudge may just be a band to check out. They have twin vocals ala Alice In Chains but with heavy Sabbath style riffs!

The Jägermeister Stage sees four more bands revealed. Friday has Kamikaze Test Pilots, who are a mix of Melvins, Clutch and COC.
Saturday welcomes Iced Earth bassist Luke Appleton, who will be debuting his acoustic solo material from the EP How Does It Feel To Be Alive (released back in March).
From Norwich, Alpha Omega are speedy, brutal and influenced by punk outfits like The Exploited. They should certainly grab people’s attentions on the day.
Finally on Sunday, from Leicestershire, come Dawn Of Anubus. They started as a covers band, but have started to write their own material.
Bloodstock RAM Gallery
Continuing the work of encouraging all aspects of rock and metal Bloodstock are welcoming back the Ram gallery. However, this year they are focussing on art inspired by the legends of metal, and Friday headliners, Judas Priest. This display will also feature two hand crafted Priest guitars. The wall itself is designed by legendary artist Mark Wilkinson who designed album covers for Priest, Maiden and Marillion. One of the aspects of rock metal and prog is the art surrounding the music. Therefore, it is wonderful to see that being represented at Bloodstock.
The festival is also continuing it’s partnership with The Teenage Cancer Trust. This has already raised £62,000 since 2011 and this year they are hoping to take it to over £80,000. There will be a stall in the market area and the festival are again asking fans to donate or swap older t-shirts. All the money will be going to help young folks with cancer. Along with the festival’s continuing support for the Sophie Lancaster Foundation against hate crimes, this is an event which helps and supports others.
For those unaware, Sophie Lancaster was a young lass who was murdered due to the way she looked. A young person who was into the rock metal and goth scene killed for being “different”. The festival has continued to have the second stage named in her honour to raise awareness of hate crime.
