Bloodstock has sprung into March by announcing 7 more bands for the festival in August. The breakdown is one on the main stage (Dio) and six for the big tent stage (Sophie) with 4 playing Saturday and 3 on Sunday. The bands come from not only the UK but from Belgium, Australia, USA and Germany and cover genres such as death metal, AC/DC classic rock and roll to thrash, classic metal and progressive rock and metal (with some jazz). So something for most folks who want to go. So here is the lowdown on the bands:
Sunday Announcements:
Starting with the biggest announcement and the band who are playing the Dio stage on Sunday and that is Belgian death metallers Aborted. The band has been around since 1995 and gone through quite a number of members, but what remains constant is frontman Sven de Caluwe. The latest album, TerrorVision, is a look at media manipulation and how viewers eyes are often diverted from the real issues of the day and often create hate for others by blaming them for the ills of society. Heavy issues for very heavy music. They are making a welcome return to Catton Hall which they last played in 2014.
Staying with Sunday, but this time on the Sophie firstly comes Australian hard rocking and partying outfit The Lazys. They are now based more in Canada but still have that Aussie vibe and attitude about them. They formed way back in 2006 but it was only when they moved to the States they really started to get noticed. The moment that things truly changed though was when in Toronto when they were signed up by a booking agent on their second show and on the third got a new fan in Billy Talent‘s guitarist Ian D’Sa who know collaborates with them. They like to leave audiences “dirty and sweaty” and that is sure to happen at Bloodstock.
Next up is a complete change of style in Boss Keloid from Wigan in England. This progressive rock/metal band with some jazz leanings are returning to the festival but with music from a new album called Melted On The Inch which Prog magazine described as “an extraordinary piece of work” to play. With 4 of the 6 tracks coming in at over 7 minutes and having an array of styles and moods I can agree with that, it is impressive.
Saturday Announcements:
The next 4 bands are on Saturday on the Sophie.
First up from California are Skeletal Remains. The band formed in 2011 and have just released their third album called Devouring Mortality. This beast of a three-piece in talking about their new album have said it is “more technical” however it is still heavy and brutal. They mix up both death metal and thrash yet still have plenty of melody.
3 Headed Snake are a classic metal group formed by and around Ministry guitarist Sin Quinn and featuring 2 other members of Ministry in Cesar Soto and Derek S Abrams, along with singer Johnny Ray from progressive rock outfit The Mourning. They have a self-titled 3 track EP out.
Dust Bolt are a German thrash band that started playing together as teenagers. They have worked and toured regularly, supporting many other older artists honing their skills to this point. They have a new album called Trapped In Chaos which came out last month on Napalm Records.
Finally, there is Red Method who are comprised of ex-members of Meta-Stasis and The Defiled. They list in their influences bands like Gojira, Alice In Chains and Pantera amongst others. They will be releasing their debut album For The Sick later this year and have a wonderfully disturbing video called “Split” which is tagged at the bottom of this piece!
Bloodstock has also announced another 13 cities where there will be coaches running directly to the site and back.
