In a recent interview with Cobras & Fire co-host Bakko, Charlie Benante of Anthrax, when asked about Slayer announcing their farewell tour said: “I think I’ve known for a while now that maybe some of the guys in the band maybe were feeling it a bit at this point and I could totally understand that because I can feel it to.  When I saw it yesterday it kind of hit home with me a bit like I actually got a feeling of putting a time stamp on things.”  Check out the full interview below.

Multi-Grammy-nominated thrash icons Anthrax will see “Kings Among Scotland,” the band’s long-awaited live-in-concert DVD, arrive in stores and online on April 27, 2018 (Megaforce).  Captured last February 15 at the band’s sold-out concert at Glasgow’s historic venue Barrowland Ballroom, the two-hour “Kings Among Scotland” incorporates the band’s entire live show along with interviews, behind-the-scenes footage and other B-roll shot on the band’s tour bus, backstage, in hotels and elsewhere.  The DVD will also include a “gear rundown” from each of the band members.  “Kings Among Scotland” can be pre-ordered starting today; log on to for all purchasing information.

CHARLIE BENANTE:  Pretty much all Anthrax songs start with Charlie.  For the most recent For All Kings, the band went into the studio with more songs than they ever had in their career, and ended up recording 20.  This was in part due to Charlie’s surgeries for carpal tunnel syndrome that caused him to miss quite a number of that cycle’s tour dates.  Benante put the down-time to good use and came up with a slew of foundation riffs and ideas for new songs that he took into writing sessions with fellow writers Frank Bello and Scott Ian.  Although he plays drums for Anthrax, Charlie does all of his “riff-writing” on guitar.  In addition, he designs all of the band’s cover artwork, ads, marketing tools and band merchandise.  He’s also the band’s archivist, and if it weren’t for the fact that he’s kept one of everything the band has done – artwork, t-shirts, posters, demo recordings, early rhythm tracks  takes, and so on – Anthrax would never be able to release the rich “anniversary editions” that they have been able to.
