ERIC SARTANA – BAND
Eric Sartana is a Montana-based musician from the doomy Metal band Throne Of Malediction. He is now flexing his musical muscles by branching out to stripped back acoustica on his own.
Singularity
Singularity is a solo record, with its roots in Country and acoustica. The album is very much a DIY solo effort, with Eric singing and playing all guitars, except for Kevin George, who plays bass on “Sistinas“.
The album is a very contemplative set of tunes, with haunting melody and distorted, but effective, acoustic guitar. The sound is stripped back, evocative and extremely moving. The collection is very different from most Decibel Geek fare, but it is artistically very good. There is real pathos in tunes like “Dead Bird’s Wings” and the whole musical journey provides a soundtrack to deep emotion.
The fantastic cover art really tells the story of this release. The wide open road, with countryside obscured by mist speaks to how this record sounds. The guitars haunt in their haltingly gentle musings, almost like the songs were being chanelled through a spiritual vortex. It is not an album that instantly grabs you, but it is a real grower, uncovering riches missed on first listen.
The main highlight of this album is Eric‘s rich baritone voice, with its Glen Danzig vibe. He sings amazingly well on tunes like “No, I Don’t Remember” and you can feel the hurt in each bar of the song. He also has a David Bowie quality with songs like “The Way To Be“.
Overall, this album is a great statement of an artist striving to deliver his vision in a new way. The music is delicate and emotionally raw, but it works. It is the furthest end of the spectrum from bombast as you can get. Listen and understand the power of music to move you.
