The Louder Than Life Music, Whiskey, and Gourmet Man Food Festival made its return to Louisville, KY on October 3rd and 4th 2015. The festival, produced by Danny Wimmer Presents, the man and company behind such other giant music festivals as Rock on the Range, Monster Energy AFTERSHOCK Festival, Monster Energy Welcome To Rockville, Monster Energy Carolina Rebellion, and Monster Energy Rock Allegiance, once again brought a stellar lineup to town. For years, Louisville has often been passed over by some of this lineup’s tours. I can’t tell you the last time Slash came to town. Actually, I don’t think he has ever been here. Don’t hold me to that, though. Needless to say, once I knew he was coming, there was no skipping this year. Honestly, after the first year, I pretty much made up my mind that I would be back every year. No exceptions.
This year started out on a day with weather so bad that I could not believe the turnout. NO ONE backed out. Through the cold, rain and mud, people from as far as the U.K., The Netherlands and Turkey gathered and packed Champions Park to its capacity. If not, it was close. This year’s attendance almost doubled last year’s. The festival sold out at 50,000 tickets, 70% of those sales coming from outside the Louisville area. Being a lifelong resident of the city, I can’t help but smile knowing that the success of this festival is only going to help the Hard Rock and Metal scene grow and make Louisville a stop on more artists tour itineraries. Sorry Forecastle Festival fans, Rock and Metal fans need our own festival as well!
The 2015 lineup featured such acts as…
Rob Zombie Sevendust ZZ Top Godsmack Slash ft. Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators Shinedown Lynyrd Skynyrd Breaking Benjamin 3 Doors Down Bring Me The Horizon Trivium Tremonti Skid Row Black Stone Cherry Collective Soul
…and too many more to list here. See the poster for the full lineup.
I am not a wrestling fan, but, if you are, this festival even featured a WWE tent complete with a full wrestling ring and matches featuring the WWE’s NXT Superstars! A Rock and Metal festival with wrestling. That is just genius. I never thought about how much the fans of both go hand in hand. I guess that’s why I am just a rock show journalist/photographer and not a successful festival promoter like Mr. Wimmer! Well played, sir!
Louder Than Life organizers have already stated that plans are underway for festival’s return in 2016! So start making your plans for next year and do not miss out. Oh, and don’t worry your food and drink needs. With over 70 food and beverage vendors, plus the Jack Daniel’s Experience, Jäger World, It’s Miller Time VIP Lounge, this festival has you covered! See you in 2016!
Special thanks to Danny Wimmer Presents and Ashton-Magnuson Media for the hospitality!
