We Start Wars is a new all-female metal band started by Alice Cooper guitarist Nita Strauss. The band has just partnered with Revolver Magazine to release their first single “The Animal Inside”. Nita once again teamed up with former Femme Fatale bandmate Katt Scarlett (keyboards) to bring us this hard-hitting single. The We Start Wars lineup is rounded out by lead singer Seana, guitarist Nicole Papastavrou (MeridieM), bassist Alicia Vigil (Vigil of War), and drummer Lindsay Martin.
The song starts off with a heavy guitar intro and marching drumbeat which could easily be the soundtrack to soldiers marching off into battle, or rockers getting ready to take the world by storm! Accompanied by elegant keyboard backing by Katt, we are then introduced to the strong vocals of Seana, adding a nice melodic buildup to the fast-paced, pounding sound of the first verse. With strong bass and drum work throughout, Alicia and Lindsay keep the song moving forward. What’s interesting about this track is the in-your-face verses, complete with driving guitar riffs, followed by extremely melodic vocals during the chorus. With Nicole on an 8-string, and Nita covering 6-string guitar duty, there’s no lack of heavy metal power as we head into a crunchy breakdown accompanied by some intricate keyboard work. Of course, the song would not be complete without a shredding guitar solo.
Although it hasn’t yet been announced when we will be hearing more from this talented group of musicians, we can be sure there is more music to come. Said Nita of the exciting new project “I’ve been wanting to be in this exact band since I started playing guitar, and after over a year of putting this together and auditioning musicians finally ended up with an amazingly talented, hard-working and driven group of girls. I truly couldn’t be more proud of how these songs are coming out.”
The band is currently set to play a headline show at The Whisky on May 25th with Valor & Vengeance supporting. We can only hope that this will be one of many shows from this exciting new female supergroup!
