Genreless, their songwriting craft is without peers in our era. It takes in punk, sleaze, boogie, grebo, stoner on its merry way but overall it’s a service to riffs and melody that makes these songs stick to you, sews them into your skin like a well-loved jacket patch. The guitar solos alone are crafted, written ear worms, none of your 8 million notes a second blurt-outs here, these solos are dredged up from the ether.

Chris Tate’s vocals have that smoky edge with a laconic snake-like feel that reeks of misbehavior.

The lyrics range from sex-laden trials and tribulations of the wandering soul to the more esoteric with dashes of humor.

Ultimately these are memorable songs that sit comfortably next to the classics.

….This is the classic rock n’ roll you’ve been praying for Brothers and Sisters!

Here’s how it all came about:

Matt Lovell and Chris Tate are the core of Nunchucker, they met in 2006 at an all day extreme drinking event in Camden UK at a venue known as Lazy Cow. This short-lived spectacularly debauched club was a favorite amongst actors, comedians, and musicians of the day many of whom are now household names. The music was an eclectic mix of dance, indie and dirty rock n roll and this blend would go on to spawn what became Nunchucker.

Chris Tate was already engaged in other music projects including his own band Trash Money an electro punk affair which smuggled rock influences into the mix, songs like “747” (unmistakable Saxon and Motorhead motifs). Their debut album even covered AC/DC‘s “Shoot To Thrill”.

By late 2006 a few threads of Nunchucker songs were starting to take shape after Chris and Matt embarked on trying to write songs to accompany a possible movie script.

Fast forward to late 2015, Trash Money had all but wrapped up and the duo decided to revisit the Nunchucker tracks and write new ones. Of the old tracks the bones of 3 or 4 made the cut, “She’s on the Pole” survives in its entirety from 2007 – riffs and lyrics in “Rock Kid”, “The Tower”, “Sweet Smell of Rock’n’Roll” and “Coffin Nails” all hail partially from way back then, everything else you hear is all new Nunchucker.

There is a limited run promo version of the album available but absolutely the tip of the iceberg before a larger release. There are versions of songs on here that are unique to this record, plus this is vinyl only. Currently, there is no other way to own these tracks.

Incidentally, “Sweet Smell of Rock’n’Roll” is the debut single from the album so be sure to check it out.
