Sweden Rock 2017

Sweden Rock Festival 2017

For the second year in a row, I was able to go to Sweden Rock. This time I was fortunate to see Canadian hard rock band Helix live in Sweden, along with Edguy, Aerosmith, Saxon, Lionheart and many more.

I had a great time once again with my Decibel Geek brethren and hope to continue returning year after year to this awesome festival.

Here is a recap of the bands I got to see and photograph.

Day 1

For most of the day we were in our rain suits, but this did not dampen our spirits as we were here to rock.

First up from Sweden, Emma Varg.

Following Emma Varg is fellow Swedish group, Art Nation.

Earlier in the day before the festival, we interviewed Brian Vollmer of Helix at their hotel.

As Grave Digger was on at 10:30 PM, there was no chance to bring out the camera with the rain pouring down. This also meant no photos of Black Star Riders.

Earlier in the day, I sat down with Chris Boltendahl of Grave Digger.

Day 2

The first band I was able to get some photos of on day 2 was Great King Rat.

From the USA, here is Hardline.

I arrived at the Festival Stage early for a good spot, to see Doro Pesch’s Warlock from Germany.

Coheed and Cambria is another American band that made the long trip over to play in front of their Swedish fans.

The day continues with Fates Warning, also from the USA.

My last band of the night was one of the biggest shows for me at Sweden Rock 2017. Edguy from Germany. I was not able to get close enough to get photos that would be worthwhile, but here is a little something.

Another highlight of the festival was to finally see Aerosmith. No photos as it looked like all 30,0000 fans were watching this show and I was too far back.

Day 3

We were late making the 12 PM start of German band Primal Fear, but thankfully, we only missed the first track.

Once Primal Fear was done we quickly made it to the 4Sound Stage to see Dutch band Picture.

Bringing back the 80’s hair metal was American band, Kix.

I had to leave Kix early to see my favorite band of Sweden Rock 2017, Switzerland’s legends, Gotthard. This was the sixth time seeing them in less than two years.

From the USA, Ratt brought back the classic 80’s.

German band Scorpions were the main act for Day 3. Once again, I had no chance to get close enough for any pictures that would stand out.

Day 4

The last day is always the hardest day of a festival.

From London England, Thunder is a band I have always enjoyed and finally got to see perform live.

As a fan of Symphonic Metal, the fans got a real treat with a one time show, with Sweden Rock Symphony Orchestra. I wasn’t able to stay for the whole show but thankfully I was able to get some shots of Tarja as she performed a couple of songs.

Next up was Lionheart from the UK. I have been a fan of this band since 1984 but have not heard anything from them recently. I was fortunate enough to get close to the stage to take photos.

Following Lionheart, was Artch, hailing from Norway.

Day 4 I was also able to catch British classic metal band Saxon, and Swedish band, Treat. Unfortunately, I was unable to get close enough for photos.

Here is a fun gallery of some wonderful memories that were made with the Decibel Geek team.
