Nashville Rock n Pod Expo donor Kevin Williams joins us this week for a talk about Japanese Metal! In this extended episode, Kevin has the knowledge and the tunes you need. Visual Kei, extreme image coupled with music, is a dominant force in Japan. Kevin gives you the backstory of what leads up to the Visual Kei movement in Japan and spins a number of great metal tunes.
Japanese Metal
Japanese metal and its history is incredibly interesting. Uniquely, western bands like Black Sabbath and KISS had a definite impact on the culture. With this in mind, Kevin is connecting the dots on how that early influence lead to Visual Kei. As a result, you’re getting some fantstic music from artists such as X-Japan, Exist-Trace, Vamps, MUCC, Big Bites, Quaff, Dir En Grey, Aldious, and Maximum the Hormone.

Hey DBGeeks, The Japanese Metal episode was killer! I found three new bands I had to go and buy their cds. Marys Blood, Big Bites, Mucc, would have never heard of these bands if it weren’t for this show. Kevin was awesome, I’ve been a fan of Japanese metal for decades, its nice to be turned onto something new. When you cant read or speak Japanese its hard as hell to discover new bands. Another episode of Japanese Metal, please! A fan of Loudness, Dir En Grey, Sigh, EZO, X-Japan, Exist Trace, 44 Magnum, and more, thanks again for opening my ears to some new music!!
